Midterm Paper Project

Semester 1 Reflection

I. Quality of Work : For all of my actual images, I have given them a clear focus either with rule of thirds or a focal point. The contrast for them has been a good balance between light and dark and they all have a tasteful amount of contrast. For compositioning, I feel like I have been doing well, but there is a lot of room for improving. My work with compositions has gotten better and I have been working really hard to improve, but more practice will help take it to the next level. The subject matter for most of my projects always relates back to the instructions of the project, but also has an interpretive meaning as well. For fulfilling the assignment, I always follow the directions and have everything necessary, but I also try to add in things that better the project, but weren't originally asked for. I always try to portray the wanted look for each project and go further. Sometimes my projects don't turn out as well as I had original wanted them too, but they may cre

Gottfried Helnwein Interpretation Part 2

Now that the image has a different viewpoint, I can see that it is in fact a proportional and realistic image. The man rock climbing isn't drawn onto the image, but he is actually climbing in front of a very large image of the girl. Now, I feel that the image is more documentary than artistic because the man is no longer a part of the picture. So, instead of thinking the meaning is about letting people "walk all over you," I now feel that the meaning is more simple. I feel that the photograph's meaning now is that there is a girl with a melancholy expression who is lonely as she is alone in the city. The picture of the girl is on the side of a large building and there are no other pictures there besides her, which portrays the idea of her isolation. I feel that the artist made the picture so large mostly for many people to be able to see it from far away and admire it. From what I can see of it, I would believe it is made on a light but firm canvas that was mounted

Gottfried Helnwein Interpretation Part 1

In this image, there is a small man rock-climbing on a woman's face. I feel that this is supposed to show how people can "walk all over you." Based on the woman's blank expression, I feel that it shows how she is reluctant to stop the man and is letting him use her to climb. This can mean how like in the real world people exploit others and "use them" to benefit themselves. And, in most cases similar to this one, the victim may understand they are being used and just don't do any thing about it either because of guilt or optimistic qualities. I feel that the image is an artistic image due to the proportions and layout making it look like art. But, I don't feel like it is a documentary image because it isn't documenting a real life event that had previously happened. I do feel that this image is photoshopped because the proportions of the man to the woman and the ability for him to be climbing on her would make it unrealistic unless it was photo
